Washington and Lee University students traveled to Barbados for experiential learning on the climate crisis and its impact. Through videos, photographs, interviews and memories, the students came to better understand the crisis and inspire others to pursue a more sustainable and eco-friendly world.

Hi everyone! I am a freshman at Washington and Lee University in Virginia, United States of America. I am the eldest daughter of a Mexican Family Household from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I love to eat, cook, and workout. I enjoy eating any type of seafood. Seeing the ocean and scuba diving has been one of the coolest things I’ve done in my life. I am excited to visit Barbados for the first time.

Hey there! I’m a Bangladeshi student studying Physics and Computer Science at Washington and Lee University in Virginia, USA - with a passport full of stamps from nearly 30 countries and five languages in my back pocket. I code apps, design websites, and tell stories to bring people together. Oh, and I’ve got six fingers on my right hand - makes cricket and typing a bit more fun.

Hi, I’m a graduating senior from Dallas, Texas. I am a citizen of all nations with my Italian, German, Nigerian, and American identity and my love for traveling. Barbados is my first Caribbean Island to visit, yet I find so much comfort in the Bajan culture due to its similarity with my Nigerian culture. I’m a very active person - I went on a hike with the Barbados Hiking Association in St. Michael!

I am a Vietnamese student at W&L, double majoring in Business Administration and Psychology with a minor in Computer Science. I always try to get out of my comfort zone, and traveling is one of the ways I do it. A (fun) fact about myself is that I travelled to 24 countries in 2024. I am very eager to learn more about climate change in Barbados with other like-minded Generals.

Hello! I’m a junior at Washington and Lee University majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Poverty and Human Capability Studies. Because I want to pursue a career in rural medicine, I’m particularly passionate about preventative healthcare and understanding the various social determinants of health. I want to be a dentist in the future, helping people maintain their oral health.

Hello, my grandfather is from Barbados, and I was born in New York. This trip is my second time in Barbados with the first being when I was 6 or 7 years old. Now, I'm a college senior soon to graduate with honors. In Barbados, I can apply what I've learned in English, Communications, Africana Studies, Sustainability, and more to give back to the islands I still consider home.

Hi! I’m a graduating senior from Atlanta, Georgia. I'm a Gambian American and have a super strong relationship with my culture. I love to dance, listen to music, read, and create art. Since I love beautiful things, I’ve been awestruck by all of the nature and scenery in Barbados. I’m excited to experience and spread some more joy in Barbados and beyond.
